Samurai films are among the most influential in cinema, earning a place in the film canon. They include some of the most important films ever produced by some of the masters of the cinema. ACMI are holding a series of special screenings under the banner heading of Samurai Cinema: The Way of the Warrior. Their unique styling and stunning big screen action remain endlessly enjoyable and gripping. In three chapters – Courage, Honour and Honesty – this season examines the nature of the Samurai film and its influence on contemporary cinema.
