BPM – interview with writer Philippe Mangeot

by GREG KING BPM is a fictional drama based on the activities of ACTUP, an AIDS activist group in Paris in the 1990s. Philippe Mangeot and filmmaker Robin Campillo (Eastern Boys, etc) were both members of the group. They have drawn upon their experiences and memories for this powerful and confronting drama - a rousing call to arms that delves into the politics of the group. At the centre is also a beautiful love story. BPM (Beats Per Minute) screens at the Melbourne International Queer Film Festival on Sunday March 24, and the Alliance French Film Festival in March.
