The Sydney South African Film Festival (SSAFF) is one of Australia’s first festivals to go online in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Festival will screen nationwide from 16 to 26 May, with five feature films, five documentaries and one short which will explore the rich and diverse culture of South Africa as well as look at its dark past of apartheid. There will also be some question and answer sessions, and interviews with the directors, in conjunction with the films. Greg spoke to festival director Claire Jankelson to learn more about South Africa’s film industry, the films in the program and the challenges of putting a film festival on-line and what this means for the future of smaller film festival like this.
