Rosemary Kariuki was the 2021 Australian of the Year – Local Hero, for her work with vulnerable migrant women in suburban Sydney. Ros met her when she was working on her previous documentary The Baulkham Hill African Ladies Troupe, and decided that she wanted to film her and the women she helped. By following Rosemary over the course of a year on her various adventures with these women, the film takes us on a deep dive into their lives. We are witness to intimate revelations. Greg speaks to Ros about the making of the documentary, which screened at the Sydney Film Festival in 2020, and about choosing which of the women and their stories to follow for the film.
