Muru is a drama from New Zealand that has been loosely inspired by actual events. In 2007 an elite unit of the New Zealand police raided the Maori community of Ruatoki after they were declared domestic terrorists by the government. Innocent children were held hostage on a bus while the police arrested many within the community, including the spiritual leader Tame Iti. Written and directed by Tearepa Kahi, the film stars Cliff Curtis, Jay Ryan and Manu Bennett. Greg speaks to director Tearepo Kahi to learn more about the history and context of this controversial film.
