The Life I’ve Seen is a short film that is a reflection of Shirley Affleck’s life growing up in the Western Australian wheatbelt in the 1940s and 50s. The 92-year old grandmother’s life is created through found reels of 8mm film reels. The 5-minute film was directed by Sydney based filmmaker Dean Ginsburg, who has made a number of commercials and short films. The Life I’ve Seen is one of the 16 finalists for Tropfest 2018, which will be held in Sydney on Saturday February 17th. The judging panel for this year’s Tropfest is led by Oscar winning actress Susan Sarandon. Greg spoke to Dean about the genesis of the film and the challenges of editing the footage down to the five minutes we see on screen.
