In June, ACMI are holding a special retrospective on French filmmaker Agnes Varda, regarded as “the godmother of the new wave.”
Joyous Curiosity runs from Thursday 19 June – Sunday 13 July 2014
For over half a century Agnès Varda’s presence in the world cinema landscape has remained vital; producing films that abound with curiosity and verve. Often referred to as the ‘Godmother of the New Wave’, she remains the sole female presence in a movement that redefined cinema. Her artistic endeavours pay witness to times of great social revolution, all the while brimming with humanity, wonder and artistic experimentation. To find out more about this series of special screening, Greg King spoke to ACMI curator Kristy Matheson for his Movies At Dusk program.
