28TH JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL – interview with MANISAY OUDOMVILAY

2024 sees the twenty-eighth edition of the Japanese Film festival, and it has now grown into the largest festival of Japanese cinema in the world. This year’s selection offers a diverse range of films, stories that celebrate unexpected connections, The opening night film is Mom, Is That You? There is a retrospective series of screenings of the films of visionary filmmaker Shohei Imamura, a socially engaged auteur whose work changed the look of Post-WWII Japanese cinema. Greg spoke to Manisay Oudomvilay, one of the festival programmers to unpack the highlights of this year’s festival, which screens across Australia throughout October.
