David Stratton’s Great British Retro Film Festival screens at the cinema Nova from August 6-19. The retrospective program will screen 19 classic British films spanning some seven decades, from Hitchcock’s 1935 classic The 39 Steps through to the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire. There is a special emphasis on the films of Michael Powell and David Lean, and a restored print of Carol Reed’s film noir The Third Man with its evocative black and white cinematography. To find out more about the program Greg spoke to Paul Dravet, the GM of Sydney’s Orpheum Cinema, and co-curator of the film festival.
