Fremont is a 2023 comedy/drama from writer/director Babak Jalali that follows Donya (played by Anaita Wali Zada), a former Afghan translator now adjusting to life in America. The film is shot in black and white by cinematographer Laura Valladao. It also stars Australian comic actor Gregg Turkington and Jeremy Allen White (from tv series The Bear) in a small but important role. One of the producers is Rachael Fung, an Australian who worked on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, and who also works in the US on smaller independent productions. She spoke to Greg about the film itself, the casting choices and some of the creative decisions behind this deadpan comedy.
