The Europa! Europa Film Festival is back in Melbourne for its third consecutive year, running from February 15th to March 11th, 2024 and screening at the Lido and Classic Cinemas. Europa Europa is a vibrant celebration of the finest contemporary European cinema. The festival will screen 47 films, hailing from 28 different countries. This exciting event spans three action-packed weeks, showcasing prestigious European films alongside thrilling Australian premiere screenings. The festival includes a retrospective on Yorgos Lanthimos, the director of the Oscar nominated Poor Things. The festival is also screening restored prints of two classics – The Conformist and Contempt. The opening night film is The Promised Land, a Danish drama starring Mads Mikkelsen. Greg spoke with the festival’s artistic director Spiro Economopoulos to find out more about this year’s program.
