Emphasising well-being and social inclusion, the Campfire Film Festival brings together films that promote discussion across the school curriculum. Sessions include screenings, student debates, introductions by education bodies and Awards by industry experts and young people. For filmmakers, students and teachers (Upper Primary – Senior Secondary) and anyone with a love of learning.
All sessions held at ACMI, Australian Centre for the Moving Image | Federation Square, Melbourne
Campfire brings the creativity of independent filmmakers to school audiences for the purpose of promoting understanding and respect. Our goal is to help teachers connect students with subject matter in ways that maximise learning opportunities and is both engaging and long lasting.
In short, Campfire is a not-for-profit that:
• collects films from around the world, made by filmmakers young & old
• has a thorough process of vetting and categorising short films
• offers school memberships to access film content quality films
• provides “Fireside notes” for every film, to help teachers guide class
discussion (download sample)
• engages with teachers individually and across different subject area
networks, helping match their teaching needs with Campfire resources
• supports teacher and student learning through the hosting of screenings,
events and online showcases of the short films
• presents the Campfire Film Festival (next in 2014) to recognise the
best-in-category works of amazing filmmakers
• returns royalties to filmmakers in recognition of their contribution
(see plain English terms & conditions)
On his Movies At Dusk program, Greg spoke to Richard Leigh, the managing director of the Campfire Film Festival about the upcoming screenings at ACMI in May
