Blackbird is a short film that explores the untold history of Australia’s sugar slaves, and will screen at ACMI on December 5 and December 12 as part of the VCA Graduate Screenings. The director is Amie Batalibasi, a Solomon Island filmmaker, for whom the story has a deeply personal connection. Greg spoke to Amie to find out more about the challenges of shooting this narrative short in Mackay with non-professional actors.
