The French Film Festival screens at Palace Cinemas around Australia from March 3, and serves up some of the best contemporary cinema from France. The opening night film is the big budget lavish production Lost Illusions, adapted from the 185-year-old Balzac novel and featuring a star-studded cast. Closing the festival is the feel-good drama Fly Me Away, which is inspired by a true story. Gerard Depardieu appears in three films this year, including another take on famous detective Maigret. There is also the powerful Holocaust drama Farewell Mr Haffman which stars Daniel Auteuil. Greg spoke to artistic director Karine Mauris to find out more about this year’s program.
