The Spanish Film Festival screens at Palace Cinemas around Australia from April 16 through to May 26. This year it also incorporates the Cine Latino Film Festival, featuring a selection of some of the best films from the Latin American region. There is also a spotlight celebrating the talent of female directors with 11 films directed by female filmmakers. The opening night film is Champions, the award-winning comedy from Javier Fesser, which was the biggest box office attraction in Spain last year. The closing night film is Pedro Almodovar’s 1988 comedy Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown. This year the festival serves up a mix of comedies, dramas, thrillers and documentaries. Greg spoke to festival artistic director Paulette Arvizu to find out more.
