The British Film Festival is screening around Australia at Palace Cinemas from November 6 till December 8. The rich program features a range of films, from music documentaries featuring the band Blur to restorations of classic period pieces including the Oscar winning A Man For All Seasons and The Lion In Winter; a documentary on the filmmaking team of Merchant Ivory; a tribute to the late great Maggie Smith; and a 25th anniversary screening of Lynne Ramsay’s debut feature Ratcatcher. There is also a screening Conclave, a new thriller about the election of a new Pope, which is based on the novel written by Robert Harris. The opening night film is Blitz, a WWII set drama from Oscar winning director Steve McQueen, while the closing night film is the love story We Live In Time. Greg chats with the festival’s programmer Kim Petralas for a look at some of the highlights of this year’s festival.
